One of the most prolific brands in the everyday carry, tactical, and outdoor gear industries, Gerber has more than solidified themselves in the annals of history. Yet they continue to innovate year after year. In fact, for 2020, they’ve just boosted their catalog with a unique folding machete they’ve dubbed the Doubledown.
At a glance, you might assume this blade is Gerber’s take on a balisong (AKA a butterfly knife). And while it does share some commonalities — including a split-folding handle that gives it the ability to collapse down to half its size — it’s also got some unique qualities we’ve not seen before. That includes a patent-pending QuadLock system that engages in three positions for exceptional blade security, a total (and impressive) length of 15.1 inches, and more. The 6.75″ recurve blade is also built from 420HC stainless steel — perfect for quick and easy in-the-field sharpening — and it comes with its own MOLLE-compatible sheath. Available soon, the Doubledown comes in three color combinations and is priced at $120 ($130 for the all-black edition).
