Kershaw knives

Stay prepared at all times with Kershaw Knives! Kershaw Knives remains one of the most trusted and popular brands in cutlery. From its humble beginnings in Lake Oswego, Oregon, to its emergence as a large, internationally-recognized knife company, Kershaw has always stood for quality, durability, innovation, and style.

What started as a knife business with six available models has now grown into a company that offers hundreds of different knives, axes, multi-tools, and other practical gear. Although the owners and location of Kershaw Knives have changed during the last few decades, knife enthusiasts can rely on the same high-quality knives they have come to expect from Kershaw.

Kershaw Knives Company History

Pete Kershaw founded Kershaw Knives in 1974 after learning about the cutlery business while working for Gerber Legendary Knives. Tokyo’s Kai Group produced the first six fixed-blade models and four folding knife models. The company continued to expand through the 1970s. In 1977, Pete Kershaw became the president of the newly founded Kai USA.

As a new decade began, Kershaw Knives would take a new direction. Kai Group began the process for purchasing Kershaw Knives in 1980. Although several references claim the sale of Kershaw Knives took place in 1977, it did not occur until 1985. Pete Kershaw remained with Kai USA to ensure consistent quality and craftsmanship of Kershaw blades.

Over the next decade, Kershaw Knives entered almost every available marketplace in the world. It wasn’t until 1998 that legendary knife-maker Ken Onion first saw his SpeedSafe assisted opening mechanism implemented in Kershaw knives. It altered the entire cutlery landscape and made Kershaw a household name.

In that same year, Pete Kershaw retired from Kai USA, but Ken Onion’s Leek and Blur knife models heralded a shift in consumer sentiment away from fixed-blade knives toward folding knives. Since Kai Group is now who makes Kershaw knives, you can depend on their 100+ years of knife-making experience.

Types of Kershaw Knives

Over the past 40 years, Kershaw Knives has created every type of knife imaginable and designed new, exciting takes on the traditional pocket knife. You’ll find pocket knives, automatic knives, folding knives, assisted opening knives, the popular Zero Tolerance knives, and more. Below is just a taste of what Kershaw Knives has to offer.

Kershaw Pocket Knives

Pocket knives represent the vast majority of Kershaw knives purchased. The immense popularity of Kershaw’s automatic and assisted opening knives drives almost the entire business. Some of the most acclaimed Kershaw pocket knives include:

Kershaw Automatic Knives

Kershaw offers a full range of automatic knives. With the push of a button, your spring-loaded Kershaw blade will automatically unfold or pop out through the front. Although automatic double-edged knives remain illegal in several states within the U.S., many Kershaw models still enjoy much fanfare, like:

Kershaw Folding Knives

From the company that caused a global shift away from fixed-blade knives, folding drop point knives and tanto blades make up most of the daily carries used by knife owners. Their compact size and ready availability draw in consumers who regularly need a sharp edge. Some of the most purchased Kershaw folding knives include:

Kershaw Assisted Opening Knives

Kershaw’s famous assisted opening knives help owners open their knives quickly while avoiding various state regulations against automatic knives. Whereas automatic knives open up automatically at the push of a button, assisted opening knives utilize a tension bar to help users unfold their blades. Some of the best examples are:

Kershaw Zero Tolerance Knives

Zero Tolerance Knives represent a sister company of Kershaw Knives under the Kai Group umbrella. Since its founding in 2016, Zero Tolerance knives have won countless awards at trade shows and other events. Think of Zero Tolerance knives as Kershaw’s more expensive, tactical alternative. Popular models include:
