Benchmade Knives

Benchmade knife company has a well-deserved reputation for manufacturing the highest-quality fixed blade knives, hunting knives, and folding knives in the United States. Its knives have been wildly popular with outdoorsmen, law enforcement, military professionals, and knife collectors for decades. Each knife comes with a lifetime warranty for repairs and service.

For years, Benchmade knives only were available at gun stores, sporting goods centers, and jewelry shops. Now, you can buy Benchmade knives online. However, purchase Benchmade knives from an authorized dealer like Blade City to make sure you’re getting an authentic Benchmade knife and not a counterfeit.

Where Are Benchmade Knives Made?

Les DeAsis founded the company in the 1970s in California under the name Bali-Song. Initially, the company crafted handmade Balisong knives before expanding to fixed blades and folding knives. In the 1980s, the company changed its name to Benchmade, Inc. to reflect its new design and manufacturing process that skillfully combines "handmade" with "factory-made" craftsmanship.

Now located in Oregon City, Oregon, Benchmade uses aerospace-grade manufacturing equipment to create precision parts and has a team of well-trained technicians inspect every knife to ensure Benchmade's high-quality standards are met. World-renowned knife artisans design its product line, and it uses the highest quality blade steel, carbon-fiber, and other materials to produce its knives.

Types of Benchmade Knives

Benchmade divides its knives into three classes:

  • Blue Class: Known as the recreation class, these knives are for everyday use or specific tasks.
  • Black Class: Known as the professional class, these knives are designed for law enforcement, military use, and rescue crews, but civilians can purchase some models.
  • Gold Class: Known as the collector class, Gold Class knives, like the Benchmade Crooked River, are high-end custom designs typically reserved for collectors.

Many of Benchmade’s knives include its patented Axis lock, a spring-operated mechanism used in both manual and automatic knives. The Axis system allows for safe and easy ambidextrous action. Axis has revolutionized knife locking action, which has helped Benchmade earn its outstanding reputation for innovation and quality.

Benchmade makes a variety of knives to fit the unique needs of its users. Benchmade knives are designed mainly for:

  • Everyday carry (EDC): Pocket knives for daily tasks
  • Hunting: Specialized knives for various hunting functions, like skinning
  • Outdoor activities: Versatile tools for camping, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing, and other outdoor sports
  • Rescue: Knives designed for the gloved hands of emergency rescue teams
  • Survival: Selection of knives for unexpected situations and adventures
  • Tactical: Military-grade knives for combat, law enforcement, and tactical events
  • Cooking: Cutlery sets for home and professional cooks

Benchmade Folding Knives

Benchmade folding knives, sometimes called pocket knives, are designed for a variety of uses. You can choose from assisted opening, automatic opening, or manual models. Below are the types of Benchmade Folding Knives.

Note: Laws on purchasing folding knives vary from state to state. Make sure to check your local knife laws before purchasing an automatic, assisted opening, or butterfly knife.

Benchmade Assisted Opening Knives

A Benchmade assisted opening knife is a folding knife that allows the user to partially open the knife with a thumb stud, which triggers the Axis Assist lock to push the spring-loaded blade into position. The user can then quickly rotate the blade into an open and locked position. Although sometimes confused with Benchmade switchblade knives that can be opened with the push of a button, assisted opening knives require the user to open it about one-quarter of the way manually.

Benchmade Automatic Knives

Automatic knives (also known as switchblades) have blades that spring open when users hit a button or trigger on the handle. Benchmade designs auto knives for the military, law enforcement, or emergency workers, but they can be used for everyday use. OFT knives, known as out-the-front knives, are automatic pocket knives with a blade that slides through a hole in the handle.

Blade City carries several Benchmade auto knives, including:

Benchmade Bali-Song Knives

Also known as butterfly knives, Balisong knives have two titanium handles that rotate around a blade and wrap around the blade once in the closed position. Traditionally, they were used as martial arts weapons, but now they are popular with people who perform elaborate knife tricks. While many manufacturers make Balisong models, only Benchmade makes butterfly knives called Bali-Song.

Benchmade Manual Knives

Manual knives are folding knives that have no automatic opening features. The user must push a button on the handle to unlock the blade and then open the blade.

Benchmade’s most popular manual knife is the Griptilian®. Benchmade offers more shapes, sizes, and colors for Griptilian than for any of its other product families. You can customize a Griptilian with a plain or serrated edge.

Benchmade Fixed Knives

Unlike folding knives, fixed knives have no moving parts. Benchmade fixed knives have very strong, razor-sharp, and durable blades. They are commonly used for hunting, camping, fishing, survival, and everyday use.

Blade City carries several Benchmade fixed knives, including:
