Nothing annoys me more than archery hunters complaining about crossbow hunters. But what happens when a new crossbow is invented that resembles a gun more than a bow? Is that still archery?
This year has given us a double shot crossbow, a 200-yard crossbow, and now a true crossgun. The new Ravin R18 weighs less than an average 12 gauge shotgun and is smaller than any rifle I have ever shot. Shooting 330 feet per second and weighing only 6.1 lbs., This crossbow is closer to my shotgun than the crossbow I grew up shooting. It will run you $1549.99.
Deer gun season is only in for a short amount of time due to gun hunting’s efficacy. If we were allowed to use guns all archery season long, hunters would kill too many deer, and the population’s health would suffer. This bow starts to blur the line between gun hunting and archery hunting.
I want to be clear that I support all hunting as long as it is done legally AND ethically. Just because something is legal does not mean it is ethical. Slavery was legal. Cutting off your genitals and calling yourself a woman is legal. Abortion is legal. Are those things ethical? We each get to decide what is ethical as long as we follow the law, and we each get to decide if we hunt with this new crossbow style.
This post is very much my opinion and is different from the other writer for thehuntingnews.com. Our other writers‘ opinions can be read in his book why we hunt, available on amazon.
