The real-life .38 revolver/12-gauge shotgun combo used in HBO’s WestWorld

If you’re a fan of HBO’s WestWorld, you’ll probably recognize Ed Harris’s unique revolver/shotgun combo.

His weapon, a LeMat Conversion Revolver, is based on an actual firearm that was used primarily by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War.

The original firearm was a nine-shot .44 caliber muzzle loading revolver that had a 20-gauge muzzle loading shotgun along the center axis.

The weapon used in WestWorld fires .38 caliber cartridges, so it’s not quite the same weapon. While there was a cartridge firing version of the LeMat, it’s clearly not the same weapon.

In the video below, Ian shows the actual fire arms along with the conversion process that creates the weapon used on WestWorld.

Take a closer look at the real life version in this great episode of Forgotten Weapons.
