PUBG In Real Life: Would Hiding Behind A Tree Save You From A Bullet?

Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG, is a battle royale mode online video game in which users collect firearms and battle until the last man or team is standing.

Unlike Call Of Duty’s arcade-like gameplay where you run and gun and respawn as quickly and infinitely as you’re killed…PUBG only gives you one life, so players need to make the most of any cover they can find, which is often nearby trees.

Yet, video games are not real life and often take great liberties when bridging the gap between military realism and fun. So the question arises: Would Hiding Behind A Tree Save You From A Bullet?

Blade City

Youtuber and Top Shot – Season 3 champion Dustin Ellerman puts that question to the test using varying cartridges fired out of pistols, rifles, and shotguns. The informal penetration test was conducted using .22LR, 9mm, 45ACP, .223, 12 gauge slug, 7.62x39mm, .308, 300WM, .338 Lapua and even 50BMG. The test results may surprise you. Although there are dozens of factors to consider beyond what is seen in the video, the selected tree actually does a good job of stopping projectiles.

That doesn’t mean you should try this at home and put your life in the hands of a tree. Although if you’re dumb enough to consider it, you may be doing the world a favor by doing so.
